Discipleship

Once you receive salvation, the next step is to become a disciple. This means you are taught the ways of God through the Holy Bible to learn how to walk and become more like Jesus. Once you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, the old you is gone, and the new you is here 2 Corinthians 5:17. You can no longer live the way you used to when you were in darkness following the ways of the world. You are no longer in darkness; the Lord has brought you into the light, and now you follow him. For those who are serious about growing up in your salvation and becoming a spiritually mature Christian, this class is for you. You must register to receive the Zoom link. Below are the areas of focus in this class.

Growth & Increase

The more you grow in understanding the ways of God and the word of God he will increase you. You will increase in every area of your life. According to Luke 2:52, Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and obtained favor from God and man. Until you grow in wisdom that only comes from God and, in statute, the command of the word, you will not increase or obtain the favor that is a part of your covenant rights once you receive salvation. You must learn your covenant rights and obtain wisdom from God in the word of God to become more like his Son, Jesus Christ.  That is what it means to be disciples, to become more like Christ and become a Son or Daughter of God.

1 John 2:6 ESV

Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

Galatians 2:20 ESV

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

2 Corinthians 3:18

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

Mental

Renewing your mind to the word of God is how you develop an understanding of the ways of God, and it increases your faith in God. When you are coming out of the world into the Kingdom of God your mind has to be renewed to the word of God, so you do not slip back into your old ways.

Romans 12:2 NLT

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Physical

Physical transformation focuses on crucifying the desires of the flesh and increasing the Holy Spirit that lives and dwells in us. This also focuses on our physical appearance, which consists of health, weight, and clothing. The Bible says our bodies are the temple of God; therefore, we must not destroy our own bodies. Regular prayer and fasting are requirements to kill the desires of the flesh so that you are sowing more to the spirit.

Romans 12:1 NLT

And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice, the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you at a high price. So, you must honor God with your body.

Galatians 6:7-9 NLT

Don’t be mislead you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

Spiritual

Spiritual transformation is an important process in your journey and walk with God. You must grow spiritually and learn how to be led, guided, and controlled by the Holy Spirit and not by the flesh. The flesh desires to sin, and the Holy Spirit desires to please God. Following the desires of the flesh will lead you to hell but following the desires of the Holy Spirit will lead you to abundant life on earth and eternal life in heaven. Therefore, committing to prayer and fasting is how you will conquer the desires of the flesh. You must pray and fast the first three days at the beginning of every month.

Galatians 5:16 NLT

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Galatians 5:18 NLT

But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Romans 8:5 NLT

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on things of the Spirit.

Romans 8:9 NLT

You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.

Romans 8:13 NLT

For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Character

Your character consists of your behaviors and actions that determine whether you are a Christian. To be a Christian means to be Christ-like. It means you do not look, talk, speak, or dress like the world. You stand out. There is a difference because you are becoming more like Christ, not more like the world. There is a clear distinction between a Christian and someone who is a non-Christian. Their character in the way they carry themselves, present themselves, and how behave make this determination. You may have been a cussing sailor in the world, but once you become saved and begin to be more like Christ, you are no longer a cussing sailor. The Bible teaches us the character of a Christian so that we can learn new behaviors that God calls Holy and practice them. The Bible says be ye Holy, for I am Holy. That is why we will strive to become Holy.

2 Peter 1:5-7 ESV

For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.

Colossians 3:12-15 ESV

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other, as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must also forgive. And above all these put-on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body and be thankful.
